Colour as a language

Explore the pieces

Four colours connect a family of handmade ceramic objects, giving you the freedom to build a table around the way you live. Choose the shapes and sizes you use, combine colours across different pieces and add to your set over time. The shared palette brings the objects together; the combination is yours.

Current Exhibition - 10.10.2026 - 11.04.2027

Presented in INNER CHILD: Playing with Design at Artipelag, Sweden, curated by Lidewij Edelkoort and Philip Fimmano.

How it works

A set you put together yourself

  • 01

    Choose what you use

Choose the plate sizes, bowls and cups that suit your everyday meals, then add the serving pieces you need. Start with a few favourites or put together a complete table.

  • 02

    Make colour your own

The four-colour sets give you a palette to play with. Pair colours across place settings, let one lead the arrangement or mix them freely. Selected pieces can also be ordered in your choice of colour.

  • 03

    Keep the table open

Your set can grow with you. Add more place settings, a serving bowl or a different kind of cup as your needs change. The shared palette connects new pieces with those you already own.

01 / A shared vocabulary

Colour changes the whole table

A red plate beside an ultramarine bowl creates a different composition from the same plate beside sky blue. With BAUHAUS, colour gives each object a role and lets that role change as the pieces move. The table becomes a composition you can keep revising.

Our palette brings together ultramarine, scarlet red, lemon yellow and sky blue, with the warm white ceramic body left visible between areas of glaze. Strong contrasts connect different forms without requiring every piece to match.

Or make a piece in your own colours

These pieces are glazed to order, so you can choose the available sizes and colour combinations for each design. Add a piece that echoes your table’s palette or introduces a new contrast.

    One palette, many tables

How will you put it together?

    • Woman with a sculptural blue collar beside a sky blue ceramic mug and a yellow apple on a red plate

      01

      Let one colour lead

Pick a favourite and let the others support it. A single yellow bowl can set the tone for the whole table.

    • BAUHAUS ceramic serving tray with cobalt blue and yellow glaze on red and blue paper

      02

      Create a conversation

Bring two colours into focus. Ultramarine with yellow is a clear contrast; red with sky blue finds another balance.

    • BAUHAUS bowls and plates in sky blue, cobalt and red with small red vases on yellow, blue and red paper in sunlight

      03

      Mix the whole palette

Give each place its own colour and repeat them across different forms, so the table holds together.

    02 / A way of thinking

    From experiment to everyday use

The Bauhaus brought art, craft and design into a shared field of experimentation. Studies in form, material and colour were part of a larger question: how could design shape the objects and environments of daily life?

BAUHAUS at Pottery & Poetry takes this connection as a point of reference. These four glazes are our own studio selection, rather than a reconstruction of one historical Bauhaus palette. Their relationships are explored through objects made to hold food, pass around a table and become part of everyday use.

    03 / The individual object

A clear colour, an individual form

The colour fields are direct, while the forms retain the small differences of making by hand. A rim rises unevenly; a brushstroke ends before the edge; glossy glaze catches the light differently across a shallow curve. These details give each object its own character within a recognisable family.

Layer plates of different sizes, repeat one colour across a place setting or let a single contrasting bowl shift the balance. The collection offers a vocabulary; the arrangement remains personal.

    INNER CHILD: Playing with Design

BAUHAUS is presented in INNER CHILD: Playing with Design at Artipelag, Sweden, curated by Lidewij Edelkoort and Philip Fimmano. The exhibition places play, imagination and making by hand at the centre of contemporary design.

For Pottery & Poetry, this is a fitting context for objects that invite people to experiment with colour and composition at their own table.

    Before you begin

    A few practical questions

    • Do I have to buy a complete set?

No. Choose only the pieces and sets you need. The builder helps you combine them and add your selection to the cart in one step.

    • Can I choose different plate sizes?

Yes. Dinner plates come in five sizes and side plates in three. Each set holds four plates of one size, one in each colour.

    • Can I add pieces later?

Yes. The colours stay the same across the collection, so new pieces join the ones you already have.

    • Will every piece look exactly the same?

No. Each piece is shaped and glazed by hand in our Sofia studio, so edges and colour fields vary a little. That is part of the collection.

    • Do I save when I build a bigger table?

Yes. Orders of two or more full-price pieces, or a set, save from 3% at €300 up to 15% at €2500. The saving appears in the cart.
